How do you get a kitten to use a litter box?

Kristen asked:

I recently took in a 5-week-old kitten I found on the side of the road. I took her to the vet and was told she had a severe ear infection, but other than that she appeared okay. She’s been receiving her antibiotics and is now running, jumping, eating solid food, drinking water, and maintaining a normal life like any kitten would. The only problem is that the kitten has not gone to the bathroom in over 48 hours. What can I do to help with this problem? I’ve heard of rubbing a warm towel on her rear until she goes to the bathroom, but will this work for a kitten of this age? Will she do it on her own if I get her introduced to the litter box? I’m worried that something may be wrong if she hasn’t gone to the bathroom in so long, but she seems fine. Any advice?

How to get my kitten to stop nursing on my older cat?

Bycio B asked:

I adopted two wonderful kitties- one’s about 12 weeks old, the other 4 weeks. The smaller obsessively tried to nurse the older girl.

I have no idea how to make him stop. I realize he is still a baby and was probably not ready to stop nursing, but the older cat is so annoyed. She can’t sleep peacefully because a little kitten is attached to her *******!!

Any ideas? I’m thinking of getting a small bottle for him and feeding him that way, hoping he’ll learn to leave her alone. Anyone else have this problem? How’d you get them to stop? What’s the typical age a kitten stops nursing?

Thanks!

How can I get my dog and kitten to get along?

I have a 1 1/2 year old pug who is very friendly with other animals, however she is sometimes a little TOO friendly. I recently brought home a 5-week-old kitten and I can’t get them to behave for the life of me. The kitten is fine walking around the house, but my dog feels the need to act like the kitten is her own personal toy, chasing after her, barking at her, nipping her. How can I make this stop, outside of yelling at her? Should I place her in a separate room each time until she learns that she won’t have this kitten to play with if she continues? It’s incredibly frustrating.

Putting a kitten in a cage during the night?

Kelly asked:

I’m about to receive my very first kitten in a few days. We have all the necessary items, however, during the night we were planning to keep it in its carrier until its fully trained.

Is this okay temporarily? There will be a litter box and food and water in the carrier, and the kitten will have full access to the house within the week she arrives home.

Our kitten is a month old now and she is still breastfeeding. How do I help her switch to kitten food?

H3 asked:

How old should the kitten be before switching to kitten food? Her mommy cat seems to be getting tired and crabby all the time so I wonder if the kitten should start eating on its own. She’s a month old now and has started to run and play so she needs a lot of energy. Thanks and happy holidays to all!

How long does it take for a kitten to be fully weaned from the time it starts eating?

I am feeding some abandoned kittens with a bottle. Two of them have already started eating canned kitten food, but a little bit. They want some more milk afterwards. How long from now do they need until they are fully weaned? And until they start eating dry food for kittens?

A few months ago I found 2 kittens in my grandmothers backyard & ever since I’ve been feeding ‘em & they’ve pretty much made the back yard their home. The other day I found another kitten back there & for some reason they dont like him. Every time the kitten runs up to play with ‘em they’ll hiss, how can I get the 2 kittens to accept the new kitten? or should I just leave things the way they are? & What are some possible reasons as to why the kittens don’t like the new kitten?
